Biography

Tyler Williamson, MD, is a sports medicine fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon. He grew up in Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota where he graduated with High Distinction from his Biochemistry program. Dr. Williamson then attended New York University School of Medicine for his medical degree before returning to the University of Minnesota for his orthopaedic surgery residency. He went on to complete his sports medicine fellowship in the highly active communities of Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes, CA. Dr. Williamson’s fellowship training provided experience with cutting-edge procedures, including ACL repair, the Bridge Enhanced ACL Restoration (BEAR) implant, direct anterior total hip arthroplasty, and shoulder arthroplasty using patient-specific computerized planning. Despite having a sports medicine emphasis, his unique fellowship afforded continued training in knee arthroplasty, hip arthroplasty, and fracture care. Prior to returning to Mammoth Lakes to join the Mammoth Orthopedic Institute, Dr. Williamson joined a private practice in Minnesota and was the first physician in the state of Minnesota to perform an ACL repair using the BEAR implant for non-research purposes.

Dr. Williamson currently serves as a team physician for the US Men’s and Women’s Snowboardcross teams and most recently traveled to Switzerland and Austria with the teams. He also served as a team physician during the 2023 Mammoth Grand Prix. While in private practice in Minnesota, he served as the team physician for a local high school. By providing care to patients from all walks of life, from Olympic medalists to recreational athletes, he understands the importance of developing a treatment plan that is personalized for each patient’s unique goals.

During his fellowship year, Dr. Williamson's deep love and appreciation for the mountains and all the outdoor recreation they offer was solidified. In his free time, Dr. Williamson enjoys snowboarding, hiking, traveling, photography, and playing several sports including hockey, softball, and golf. He is excited to return to Mammoth Lakes to provide exceptional care to the active community he now calls home.
